Stuart Hughes - Managing Director

Stuart was until June 2007, a licensed aircraft maintenance engineer with Qantas Airways. With over 18 years of aircraft maintenance experience, Stuart has been involved in several safety and human factors initiatives at Qantas. During his last 2 years with the airline industry he was instrumental in the development and delivery of EASA Part 145 compliant Maintenance Human Factors training for Qantas Engineering staff.

Stuart was influential in the introduction of the “just culture” policies and maintenance error investigation processes as part of the Qantas error management strategy. Prior to this, he was a key person in the research and development of human factors programs within Qantas engineering.

Stuart began his aviation career as a Qantas engineering apprentice and continued his experience in areas including heavy maintenance, base and line maintenance. He has worked on aviation safety projects that involved development of partnerships with several academic and professional institutions. He has studied aviation human factors with Swinburne University of Technology in Victoria, Australia and APRG Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland.
